A Serra do Silveirão nada mais é do que o ponto mais isolado do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, localizada junto a Serra Geral, situa-se junto as divisas de Mampituba com São Francisco de Paula e Três Forquilhas. Inicia na região de Roça da Estância e segue até a região próxima a Serra do Pinto em Três Forquilhas. A área total da Serra chega a 10 mil hectares, onde em sua maioria é formada por vales, rios e cachoeiras. Seu acesso é difícil, apenas por trilhas e estradas de péssima qualidade.
A rodovia Rota do Sol a princípio estava projetada para descer na Serra do Silveirão, passando por Rio da Invernada (próxima a Cascata dos Borges) passando por Taquaruçú, Vila Brocca, Mampituba (antes Rua Nova) e seguiria até Torres, porém devido a enchente de 1974 os planos foram modificados e a Rota do sol passou a ser projetada para descer então em Terra de Areia.
